"Journal writing is rolfing in reverse," wrote my grandmother Neva Daniel 44 years ago in Media & Methods.
Most of us might not recall rolfing--a massage technique that was supposed to liberate memory and emotions. Neva was suggesting that liberating memory and emotions through journaling massaged us physically in some way.
I don't think this is too far-fetched. Memories can activate sensory and motor neurons. I love this idea.
Ten years after that her article was republished beside her mentor's Ira Progoff's writing, which must have been a thrill for her.
I am also obsessed with therapeutic journaling and have done it most of my life. Must be genetic.
